Based on the exercises, feedback and discussion in the studio workshop:
Part 1 - Identify document and evaluate a minimum of 10 examples of professional designer's and/or design studios who have used a range of media and formats to distribute samples of their work. You should aim to select a range of examples using a rage of media.
Part 2 - Produce a short (50 word) SWOT analysis of each example in order to analysis its relative merits and effectiveness as a promotional tool or strategy.
{ 1 } Anthony Burrill
anthonyburrill.com
During the Leeds print festival talks, I managed to get this newspaper print which included the latest work from Anthony Burrill. The idea of creating a newspaper portfolio is an effective way of showcasing your work - in Burrills case it allows the audience to see a collection of the latest work. Strengths of using this concept are that the print cost is quite low and a the portfolio can be produced in bulk.
{ 2 } Catherine Nippe
cnippe.com
Like Anthony Burrill, Catherine Nippe has also created a portfolio style newspaper, this one however includes much more information, including her background and other information as well. Again it seems like an effective way of showcasing a range of projects, however, due to the stock it can also be easily damaged, or ruined also it might easily be mistaken for a newspaper and thrown away.
{ 3 } AMV BBDO Creative Agency
www.amvbbdo.com/work/showreel/
Being a leading creative agency, AMV BBDO specialise in advertising and commercial projects with clients such as Heinz, Birdseye, Twinings and Walkers, considering many of their projects are screen based, television adverts and websites/web promotions they have created a short showreel to promote their latest projects. Having viewed a range of showreels in the past this one has to be one of the most effective ones I have seen, the pace is just right with music that doesn't distract the viewer from the content. The showreel is better than viewing full version of each project as it shows the key elements in each one, allowing the audience to get a quick idea of everything that is offered. It can also be easily shared across the web - making it easier to access compared to print based materials.
{ 4 } Yu Ping Chuang

This printed publication by Yu Ping Chuang is a simple way of showcasing your latest work. Probably one of the most common ideas, easy to design and produce with a clear purpose. Although it is easy to design and also to produce it might not be the best concept when it comes to distribution, especially if it was to be posted, as it might not be cheap in terms of postage costs. In terms of strengths, it is a clear and concise way of presenting information but maybe not the most engaging.
{ 5 } Hype Type Studio
hypetype.co.uk
One of the websites that I regularly check is from Hype Type Studio, the website is updated regularly, as well as being easy to navigate around. Having a website is one of the easiest way to promote and share work, as it accessible to so many people. A good website is essential as it creates an impression about either yourself, or your company. As I mentioned the website is easy to navigate around which is essential. One of the things that maybe lets down the site is the fact that to find out more about the project you have to click a separate link, it could be useful to have the information on the same page as the images for the project. Besides this the website gives a real insight into the work of Paul Hutchison with different projects across a range of disciplines. One of the major benefits of having a website is that as you update it you have the choice to keep older projects or remove them, so it can be used to create a catalogue of all the work you have created.
